What is Dragon Curve Cup?

Dragon Curve Cup is a math competition for students in grades 5-8. Organized by the non-profit Dragon Curve Tutoring, this four-round, day-long event introduces participants to interesting math concepts and fosters a strong community of math enthusiasts. The competition is designed to challenge students, encouraging them to think creatively and develop their problem-solving skills. Through engaging and thought-provoking problems, the Dragon Curve Cup aims to ignite a passion for mathematics and inspire the next generation of young mathematicians.


Format and Rules

Speed Round
  • The Speed Round is an individual round that consists of 15 questions to be done in 20 minutes.
  • Calculators are not allowed.
Time Round
  • The Time Round is an individual round that consists of 10 questions to be done in 30 minutes.
  • Calculators will be allowed for this round.
  • The final Individual score will be calculated by 2*(Time Round Score) + (Speed Round Score)
Team Round
  • The Team Round is a collaborative round that consists of 10 questions to be done in 20 minutes.
  • Teams can be up to four people.
  • Calculators are not allowed in this round
Puzzle Round
  • The Puzzle Round is a fun round that consists of five rounds of three questions to be done in an hour.
  • At the beginning of the round, each team sends a runner to get the first round of questions. Once the team finished the first round, they must send somebody up to the front to submit their answers and get the second round of questions. Grading will be live.
  • The Puzzle Round will not count towards the cumulative sweepstake score of the team.
